Some of the causes for engine failure could be faulty spark plug or dirty fuel which will cause a blockage in the carby. In addition, it could be faulty ignition coil, no spark or the stop switch may be broken.
Holts' Mowers and Saws run 25 to 1 fuel mix which is 200mls of oil to 5 litres of unleaded petrol. You can also run 50 to 1 fuel mix if your machine manual advises this combination. 50 to 1 is 100mls of oil to 5 litres of unleaded. Only use the best brand quality of 2stroke oil.
All chainsaws will leak oil from the side cover after useage.
The cause of this could be broken blades, dirt or grass stuck in or on the blades causing the mower to become out of balance or the blade boss could be broken.
Unless you tip it over the right way, oil runs from the sump into the carburator and burns when the motor is started.
The mower will require the air filter to be cleaned or replaced and possibly the carburator will need cleaning. Also, oil may need topping up.
For the best quality lawn, mow as regularly as possible. During winter mow about once a fortnight, while during summer try and mow every week. Be careful of how close you mow your lawn to the ground. Some lawns will tolerate lower cutting than others, however the ideal height is generally at least 2cm tall.
If you mow in the same direction every time, it will affect the way the lawn grows. The grass will tend to lie over and grow in the direction that you mow. Alternating the direction of mowing, or cutting the grass taller will eliminate this affect.
